Monday, 12 December 1927

Edwardstone House

Polly drove to Edwardstone Hall and saw the Steward's wife (Girt) about turkeys for Xmas - afterwards saw an old widow Smith at Edwardstone, and later visited Mrs Carpenter (builder's wife), Mrs Works? and Mrs Smith (wife of postman)

Wednesday, 14 December

Polly and I had tea with Mr and Mrs Dyer (senior) at Beech House just opposite.

Thursday, 15 December

At 11.50 we heard on the wireless the announcement that the measure to bring in the New Prayer Book had been defeated in the House of Commons by 247 votes to 205 in the House of Commons.

Friday, 16 December

Polly went into Sudbury in the car before lunch and bought a Valor Perfection oil stove.

The District Nurse, Mrs Peake of Groton, Boxford and Edwardstone came to tea.

Saturday, 17 December

In afternoon I drove to Colchester station and met Pippa, Anne and Wilma, the two last returning for the Xmas holidays.

Sunday, 18 December

I drove into Colchester and met Betty at the station at 11.4 am from London. Road very slippery.
