Week of 25 February 1929

Monday, 25 February 1929
St James - Marine Hotel - Hermanus
We left the hotel about 11.30 am in a car with our luggage and drove via Wynberg - Somerset and Strand - Sir Loury's Pass - Elgin - Bot River to Hermanus. Lunched at side of road - arrived Hermanus 4 pm. Very glad to leave St James as the trains and motor traffic in front of the hotel were very tiring.
Hermanus is lovely, on Mount Bay?, very picturesque, rocky cliffs with sand on opposite side of bay.
We are in a dependance near the hotel with room facing the sea. We took a walk after tea to Bay View Hotel.
After dinner Major Schlater and sister came over from Bay View Hotel.
Tuesday, 26 February
Hermanus
A lovely day. We spent the morning on the rocks watching Major Sclater and sister fishing. Catch of 7 fish.
English mail arrived but no letters for us as T. Cook and Sons had made a mistake of our address.
Thursday, 28 February
We sat out in front of hotel after lunch. No mail! Telephoned to St James Hotel and to T. Cook and Sons in Capetown. Told that all our mail had been sent to Marine Hotel at Seapoint!
Friday, 1 March
Polly and I fished at West Cliff and caught 5 fish. In afternoon we got our mail which left Engmand on 8th February and which we should have got on Tuesday last. After dinner we went to the cinema. The Lost Children.
